PIIN and Immigrant Rights Activists Rally, Block Traffic to Demand an End to Zero Tolerance Immigration Policy

On Monday, June 25, PIIN joined Casa San Jose, Pittsburgh United, Thomas Merton Center, Pittsburgh Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, and more than one hundred immigrant rights activists to demand family reunification and an end to the Trump Administration’s cruel zero tolerance immigration policy.

Over the last six months, the Trump Administration has torn over 2,300 children from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border. After days of national outcry, President Trump signed a dangerous executive order that would henceforth detain both parents and children together for an indefinite period of time.

As a people of faith, we know that the President’s executive order is little more than a farce as it will not lead to the humane treatment of immigrant families at our border, end the “zero tolerance” policy, or address the plight of the more than 2,000 children who have already been separated from their parents.

On June 25, we rallied in front of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement office on Pittsburgh’s South Side, marched through the streets, and temporarily blocked traffic in front of the Hot Metal Street Bridge to demand an end to the inhumane and immoral treatment of immigrant families.
