Join PIIN on Tuesday, June 26, to hear from Al Lingo, a white Protestant minister who worked with Dr. Martin Luther King in St. Augustine, Florida and Selma, Alabama in the 1960s.

In 1964, Rev. Lingo was one of several civil rights activists who jumped into a segregated pool at the Monson Motor Lodge in St. Augustine, Florida to protest the hotel restaurant’s refusal to seat Dr. King. The owner of the hotel then poured acid into the pool before activists were hauled out and arrested. These events were captured in photos and shared widely across the nation. A week later, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act.
