The Pennsylvania Interfaith Impact Network is hiring a Lead Organizer. We seek a leader who can work in neighborhoods and congregations creating pathways to power: working alongside people as they move from the margin to the center of the movement for justice in our region. Our Lead Organizer will structure campaigns that build our base, & support participants in discerning issues and setting agendas for action.

The Pennsylvania Interfaith Impact Network organizes people of faith and moves them into action to change the balance of power for justice in western Pennsylvania. PIIN is an affiliate of The Gamaliel National Network, a network of more than 60 local and regional congregation-based organizing groups which works to empower ordinary people to effectively participate in the political, environmental, social and economic decisions affecting their lives.

A strong candidate will be dedicated to the principles and practices of community organizing and use them effectively to develop leaders and win campaigns.  They must also understand how to build and maintain all the aspects of a healthy, nimble, efficient organization that practices equity internally as it names, pursues, and achieves its external goals.

 

Overview and Description 

The PIIN Lead Organizer will work with a network of congregations and organizations in Southwestern Pennsylvania committed to connecting people of faith to act powerfully on local, regional, statewide or national issues of justice and fairness through the process of community-building, direct action, and negotiation with decision makers.

In their capacity as Lead Organizer, the successful candidate will work directly to develop leaders within each PIIN congregation and PIIN task force, and equip leaders to act on issues of self-interest as well as shared interest of the PIIN organization.  The Lead Organizer will take an active role in planning and executing public action campaigns.  They will assist in recruiting new congregations and task force members. They will play an active role in fundraising, and will train and schedule volunteer workers in support of organizational events and processes.

The PIIN Lead Organizer will report to PIIN’s board, represented by PIIN’s president and executive committee. Appointment and evaluation of the Lead Organizer occurs in consultation with the Gamaliel Network’s assigned organizational consultant.

Builds power in and bridges among congregations, organizations and individuals by forming relationships, alliances, and coalitions for action.

Embodies racial, gender, age, and religious equity in its powerstructure, staffing, priorities and actions and addresses its own biases and racism.

Draws on the wealth of our diverse faith traditions and demonstrates faithfulness according to their wisdom and visions of justice.

Engages spiritual leaders, young and old, in a sustainable path to power, offering support and leadership development and challenging them to live their values.

 

Compensation

Salary compensation will be based upon experience and education in the field.
