Ten Years Since Sandy Hook: A Vigil For Change

In December 2012, a tragedy occurred when 20 children and 6 educators were brutally slain at Sandy Hook Elementary School. We’ve lost far too many to gun violence in the years since, with 15,000 people from Pennsylvania alone having become victims. This is an epidemic that needs to be addressed and resolved as soon as possible.

As loved ones remember those no longer with them around the holiday table, we strive to put an end to gun violence. We are determined to honor its victims by committedly working to prevent any further empty chairs.

You’re invited to Bidwell Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh on Thursday, December 15th at 7:00 PM for a Vigil of Remembrance for those lost to gun violence in Allegheny County this year. In addition to honoring the memory of those we’ve lost, it’s an opportunity to show solidarity and work together to put an end to this horrific violence. Please join us at this moving event. #EndGunViolence

This event is sponsored by a coalition of community partners in gun violence prevention: CeaseFirePA, Pittsburgh Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, Squirrel Hill Stands Against Gun Violence, The Clergy Council of Squirrel Hill Stands Against Gun Violence, The Pennsylvania Interfaith Impact Network (PIIN), Bidwell Presbyterian Church, and the Wilkinsburg Sanctuary Project For Peace.

Since the tragedy of that day, our mission has grown to champion gun safety in Pennsylvania. We have made significant progress, including legislation that disarms domestic abusers, replenishes funds for safer communities and strengthens background checks. Despite these policy wins, the problem of gun violence persists as inadequate resources are devoted to combat it. We must take immediate action to save lives.

Each passing day carries with it a heavy reminder of those we’ve lost. We humbly invite you to join us in remembering these special people, and paying tribute to them by advocating for meaningful change.
