PIIN Supports Passage of H.R. 4 – Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2019

PIIN applauds Congress’ passage of H.R. 4 – the Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2019 which fully restores the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and protects the constitutional right of every American – to vote and participate in our elections.

The passage of H.R. 4 in the House of Representatives is a gigantic step in ensuring that voters have equal access to the ballot box, especially for those who have historically faced systematic discrimination, intimidation, and voter suppression.

In late February a delegation of PIIN Leaders embarked on a Sacred Pilgrimage to Selma, Alabama to participate in the 54th Anniversary of Bloody Sunday and the historic March from Selma to Montgomery which helped bring about the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. As a result of this pilgrimage PIIN committed its support to the passage of H.R. 4.

While we celebrate the passage of H.R. 4, we are not blind to the fact that passage in the Senate will be an uphill battle. However, as people of faith, we will remain steadfast in our belief that the right to vote is fundamental to justice and we are preparing to mobilize for its passage in the Senate.

PIIN now urges the Senate to pass S.561 – Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2019!
